Grant Rowe, the borough's sustainability coordinator, told the Shade Tree Commission the borough has planted 16 trees in the Old Orchard neighborhood under its Street Tree Initiative and will next move toward Clemens. Rowe said the supply of available trees is dwindling and there is little time left in the planting season, so the commission decided to close the current request form for this phase of the program.
Rowe also said the borough plans to print small signs to place next to street trees planted through the initiative so residents can identify the program. The decision is intended to let staff complete planting for this phase and prepare for the next round of requests in a future phase.
