Council suspends Thirsty's liquor license until sales-tax hold is cleared

The Torrington City Council voted on July 21 to suspend the liquor license of a local business (identified in the meeting as Thirsty's) after the state notified the city of a sales-tax hold. Council members said the suspension is mandatory upon notification and enforcement will occur when an officer serves the notice.
Chief Matt Johnson told council that, provided the business can be contacted, the notice could be served that evening and the sale of liquor would stop upon service. "That'll be taken care of this evening," Chief Johnson said when asked about timing. The motion to suspend the license until the sales-tax notice is resolved was moved, seconded and approved by voice vote.
