Council amends FY2026 budget to cover $6,842.27 in fire-department expenses

City finance staff presented a budget amendment to address unanticipated fire-department expenses, including emergency air-conditioning repairs, and the council unanimously approved Resolution 2026-10 to amend the FY2026 budget.
Finance staff Lynette Strecker said the amendment uses excess sales-tax revenue to cover the fire department overage and avoid dipping into reserves. "We did have some air conditioner repairs that were not budgeted this year, and so I'm just taking that revenue and adjusting the budget for the fire department," Strecker said. The council discussed audit implications of failing to authorize the appropriation; staff said failure to amend the budget could lead to an audit finding but bills would still be owed because contracts were already performed. Strecker reported the bills related to this amendment total $6,842.27 to date. The resolution was moved, seconded and approved and the mayor signed it.
