Gregory Council swears in new members and elects leadership

Mayor Al Cerny presided over the Gregory City Council meeting on May 5, 2025, where the outgoing council adjourned and the newly constituted council was sworn in. Alex Hamilton (Ward I) and Ashley Lozano (Ward II) were sworn; two one-year appointments for Ward III were filled by Maurice Schlaht and Stacey Boes. Council members publicly thanked outgoing member Cory Graber for seven years of service.
The council elected Kristi Drey as council president (motion by Laura Petersen; vote recorded as five ayes with Drey abstaining) and elected Laura Petersen as vice-president (motion by Kristi Drey; five ayes with Petersen abstaining). The council also approved a set of appointments: Ryan Cook as chief of police; Rachelle Norberg as city attorney; Sue Hogue as health officer; Gregory Times Advocate as the official newspaper; BankWest, First Fidelity Bank, Consumer’s Federal Credit Union and SDFIT as official depositories; Donna Schmitz and Sharon Pedersen to two-year Planning & Zoning terms; Mark Braun to a five-year Housing Board term; and Laura Petersen as library liaison. Motions to approve the new council and the listed appointments carried with recorded ayes.
