Library, public works and police report updates at Gregory City Council meeting

Library Director Tara Engel told the council that "registrations for the summer reading program 'Color My World' would be out before school is out," and announced a One Book SD event at the library on May 6 at 6:00 p.m. featuring author Rebecca Clarren and her book The Cost of Free Land. Engel also noted that STEAM Club continues on Mondays and that a movie showing of The Wild Robot was scheduled for May 12.
Public Works Superintendent Guhner Kepler reported that materials for the 2025 Street Project have arrived: chips are staged at the football field parking lot and about half of the gravel will be stockpiled at the city shop with the other half behind the auditorium. Kepler also said the previously damaged highway flagpole has been repaired and now displays a 6x10 flag.
Police Chief Ryan Cook briefed the council on public safety outreach and training. He said the Safety Fair sponsored by Avera Hospital, the Gregory Police Department and the Gregory County Sheriff’s Office was set for April 25 and that the Bike Rodeo will return this year (date to be set). Cook and Officer Atkins attended a conference in Deadwood that covered First Amendment issues for law enforcement, use-of-force, response-to-resistance training and legal liabilities.
The department reports were informational and no formal council action was taken on the programs or the street materials during the meeting.
