Board President Ms. Milazzo said she researched the Home Rule Charter process and found it would be a two-plus year effort requiring voter approval; she raised concerns about the cost compared with potential tax-dollar recapture. Commissioner Miller said the Board should "at least explore this and solicit public input and examine the cost" and asked that Home Rule be listed on the June work session agenda.
Commissioner Smock added that it is important to discuss Home Rule and Commissioner Halbert asked where the Board should look for direction on potential profitable opportunities. The Board asked staff to continue exploring the issue and bring it back for broader discussion and public input.
