Union County water crews praised for mutual aid after Anson County water outage

Union County commissioners used part of their July 20 meeting to recognize the county water department for providing mutual aid to Anson County following a July 7 water-main failure that left that county without drinkable water.
County Manager Brian Matthews said Union County sent crews to assist with repair work, water-quality testing and public information, and that teams returned repeatedly to finish repairs and complete flushing and testing. "Our staff jumped in both feet," Matthews said, praising crews who worked multiple days on repairs and water-quality support.
Jamie Caldwell, chairman of the Anson County Board of Commissioners, thanked Union County and described the conditions on site, saying crews "literally were waist-deep in the mud trying to repair water leaks" and that Union County personnel continued returning to complete work and flushing. Chairman Helms read a list of county staff who took part and invited them forward for recognition and a group photo.
No formal action was taken; the remarks were staff recognition and public acknowledgment of inter-county mutual aid.
