Kathy McCullen, president and CEO of the Middle Georgia Community Food Bank, urged more volunteers after a volunteer day that included youth from Girls Dig Deeper and corporate partners. "It is so important for us to have volunteers," she said, and described the scale of the bank’s work.
McCullen said the food bank has 22 employees but serves 24 counties, and that partner agencies — many of them volunteer-run nonprofits and churches — help distribute food to neighbors in need. She said the bank relies on volunteers and corporate partners to move and distribute the food effectively across its service area.
The food bank and event organizers encouraged local residents and businesses to sign up for future volunteer shifts to support packing and distribution operations.
