Residents press commission for studies, transparency over possible data center north of El Dorado

Several residents used the public-comment period to press the commission for transparency and independent studies related to reports that a data center might be proposed north of El Dorado. Christopher Landers said he had been told land had been purchased and raised concerns about water consumption and "contaminated water," asking what steps the city would take. "We want a future," Landers said, and asked how the public will be informed if a formal proposal arises.

Sarah Hinshaw and other commenters cited moratoriums in adjacent counties and urged thorough, balanced education: "There’s a reason that they are doing moratoriums," Hinshaw said, and she asked that any public outreach include risk mitigation as well as benefits. Commenters requested third-party environmental and hydrologic impact studies, questioned El Dorado Inc.'s role in recruitment and the allocation of taxpayer funds, and urged the commission to consider tabling annexation or ETJ votes until community concerns are addressed. Staff responded that the city has received inquiries but no formal application or completed proposal has been filed to date; residents were told they can sign up for planning and zoning notifications on the city's portal.
