Reverend Dobbs urges city help to preserve Dunbar building, cites leaks and trespassing concerns

During the citizens petition period on May 26, Reverend Wesley Dobbs said he represents the Dunbar Foundation and urged the council to help preserve the Dunbar building, which he described as a monument to alumni and local history. Dobbs said the foundation received a notice and reported grass-cutting and that the foundation will post no-trespassing signs so the police can better address trespassing and sheltering on the site.
Dobbs described a leak in a utility building connected to the property and asked how that issue affects the City of Fairmont. He said he intends to keep the foundation active and that the board of directors remains intact. "If I let the foundation go, then I'm letting the building go. And I'm not going to do that," Dobbs said. City staff offered to meet with him and the foundation and to coordinate next steps; the manager and council expressed willingness to work through repair options and historic-designation possibilities and said staff would follow up with Dobbs as the primary contact.
