Mass Audubon presented a phased plan for Pawtucket Farm on Varnum Avenue that includes an education center, a farm support building, trails, community gardens and a 38‑space parking lot to support programming and school group visits. Liz Stetson said the project grew from extensive community engagement and is intended to provide outdoor education, food access and ecological stewardship.
Designers described stormwater controls (three infiltration basins, swales, and a subsurface infiltration system), a bus drop‑off for larger school groups, and pedestrian connections to an LRTA route. The board approved the site plan subject to conditions including use of a UV‑reflective seal coat on paved areas and an effort to preserve a mature street tree at the sidewalk; staff will track final design details and ADA sidewalk accommodation.
