At the July 21 meeting the Berea City Council adopted Ordinance 11-20-26 on second reading, an ordinance declaring specified city property surplus and authorizing sale. The motion to adopt was moved by Steve Connell and seconded by Jerry Little; a roll-call vote recorded affirmative responses from Teresa Centers, Katie Startsman, John Payne, Mike Barnett, Mary Pointer, Steve Cottle and Jerry Little.
Council then discussed filling the vacancy left by Ronnie Terrell's resignation. The mayor cited KRS 83.1.040 (sections 5 through 8), which directs the legislative body to fill a vacancy in the mayor-council form of government, and Jerry Little moved to nominate Virgil Burnside to serve the remainder of the term. John Payne seconded the motion, it passed by voice vote, and the council said it would arrange for Burnside to be sworn in as soon as possible.
