Board discusses model ordinance to limit data centers in West Norriton

Jason M. Bobst told the Board there have been no applications or expressed interest for data centers in the Township, but staff is reviewing a model ordinance intended to restrict their siting. Bobst recommended using Chester County's recent data center ordinance as a guideline in drafting local rules.
Solicitor Kailie Melchior, Esquire, told the Board that the Township cannot categorically ban data centers but can regulate them to protect residents. Commissioner Halbert summarized the Board's stance on regulation, saying, “we are not welcoming them with open arms, but we are not nailing the door shut.” The Board did not adopt any ordinance during the work session; the item remains in staff review.
