Miss Scott presented the superintendent's personnel recommendations including retirements, resignations, new certified and classified hires, transfers, contract extensions and athletic supplements across schools.
During discussion the board set aside item 46 for separate consideration. A board member expressed sadness over the departure of Dr. Atkins from a school leadership post; Dr. Perri said the position was posted that day, must be posted 14 days, and staff aimed to complete interviews and possibly have a replacement in place during the first week of school to allow overlap through Aug. 14.
The Chair asked Miss Scott to report vacancies. Miss Scott said, "To date, we have 38 vacancies, 10 pending recommendations that will come before you on July 28. ... we have 19 contingency plans in place ... and 9 that are unfilled positions right now." She added that Kelly Services is being used for paraprofessional positions and that math, science and special education remain the largest gaps.
The board voted to approve item 46 on the supplemental list; the Chair recorded one abstention by Mr. Simmons in the transcript. Members emphasized ensuring there is a teacher in every classroom on day one and noted contracts and contingency plans to place instructors in classrooms if needed.
The transcript does not include a full roll-call for each personnel vote, but it records motions, seconds, and voice approvals for the slate and the supplemental item.
