Several Mahwah residents used the public-comment period at the July 6 council meeting to press the township for updates on two neighborhood concerns: proposed "mega" data centers and bus traffic on residential streets.
At 7:15 p.m., resident Anne Powley revisited concerns about mega data centers and asked for an update from the Ordinance Committee. Resident Donna Davino reported that buses are still using Martis Place and Reid Court and said two or three additional bus companies have been dispatching more buses from that area. Janet Aufsfeld told the council she was having trouble hearing the Zoom feed; Council President Robert M. Ferguson III acknowledged ongoing live-feed problems and noted the meeting recording would be available for residents to view later.
In response, Council President Ferguson said the Ordinance Committee, with the Township Attorney, "are currently working on an Ordinance regarding mega data centers and is expected to be introduced shortly." Business Administrator Benjamin Kezmarsky added that the Township Engineer is "presently working on a traffic study for Martis Place, Reid Court, and the adjacent area, which is anticipated to occur in the Fall." Those steps do not set policy immediately but signal that staff and the committee will analyze options and return with proposed ordinance language or study results.
The council did not take formal action on either topic at the meeting. Residents who raised concerns were given instructions to follow up with administration, and the traffic study timeline and any ordinance text will determine the next procedural steps.
