Council hears updates on sidewalks, trail connector, demolition and utility conflicts

On the Edwardsville connector and sidewalk projects staff described utility conflicts (a large Spectrum communication box at the northwest corner of 9th & Blake), potential private-meter relocation costs that the city may have to pay, and coordination needs with AT&T and other utility companies. Staff said some sidewalk work is being deferred to align with other construction and to avoid damage from deliveries.
Staff also reported the demolition of a house near 110th & I-70 is moving forward: asbestos removal was recently finished and the demolition cost was described as “30-ish thousand” dollars. On the connector project staff noted the pedestrian bridge and other elements substantially increase project cost and that some components may push into next year, with staff citing a September target as an anticipated end date for certain phases.
Council asked for follow-up on meter relocations, easement details and the sequencing to minimize cost; staff agreed to provide further measurement details and cost estimates.
