County accepts several state grants for criminal-justice programs and juvenile court

The commission approved multiple state grant awards from the Criminal Justice Coordinating Council on July 21: a Council of Accountability Courts Judges award of $299,679 with an in‑kind match valued at $52,885; a $169,074.20 award (with $29,837 in-kind match) to fund the Macon Judicial Circuit Family Treatment Court program; and a juvenile-justice incentive grant of $365,114 for the Macon Bibb County Juvenile Court with no local match required.
Mayor explained that where the award lists a "payable in kind" match the county is using existing employee salaries as the local match: "They're using the money we already paid somebody as our match," he said. Commissioners voted to accept the grants and send the items to the consent agenda.
Staff noted that some grants include salary-funded positions that are grant-dependent: if future grant funding ends, positions funded by that grant may also end, which the commission discussed briefly when asking about sustainability and future-year obligations.
