Commission recognizes employee of the month and promotes longtime officer to sergeant

At the July 21 meeting, the commission recognized Mandy Schroeder as the city's employee of the month for July. Colleagues credited Schroeder with substantial contract work, negotiations and courtroom duties; Schroeder identified herself as the assistant city attorney and prosecutor and thanked her team.
The body also honored Officer Sean Abbey's promotion to sergeant after 26 years with the police force. Chief Johns and the mayor participated in a pinning ceremony and praised Abbey's leadership, including service during a recent tornado response. Abbey accepted the recognition.
Both recognitions were ceremonial and required no formal votes. The commission used the opportunities to highlight staff service and dedication.
