Council removes accidental regional-growth-center reference from Sammamish comprehensive plan

The Sammamish City Council voted unanimously (7-0) on July 21 to approve a resolution amending Land Use Policy 10.4 of the 2024 comprehensive plan to remove language referencing pursuit of a PSRC regional growth center designation.
Deputy Mayor Debbie Treen, who moved the resolution, told the council the countywide planning policies include criteria for regional growth centers that Sammamish does not meet. “The countywide planning policies that establish this idea of a regional growth center has criteria for where regional growth centers should be located, and Sammamish does not meet those criteria,” she said. Councilmember Pamela Stewart and others supported removing the inadvertent reference, noting the edit brings the local plan into clearer alignment with regional guidance.
Staff said the change is primarily corrective: it does not alter county policies and will be incorporated into the city’s annual comprehensive-plan amendment docket for final adoption later this year.
What’s next: The resolution moves the proposed comprehensive-plan edit into the annual amendment process; a final ordinance will be considered as part of the year-end comprehensive-plan update docket.
