Staff and the project team told the committee that site mobilization for the office/maintenance garage began in early July after the town issued the building permit on June 30. Work completed to date includes delivery of office trailers, installation of security fencing, delivery of a diesel generator, grading and excavation for deep drainage lines. "The building permit for the construction was issued by the town of Bourne," the project update said.
During excavation for a reinforced-concrete drainage pipe the contractor encountered a large glacial erratic that required two days of hydraulic-hammer demolition and several additional large boulders in the trench box. The team said these conditions will result in change orders to cover additional piping and structures for the drainage route and the boulder removal. Project staff confirmed they will maintain a change-order log and bring formal change orders to the committee for review and vote.
