Local water group offers to help Bourne identify cesspools and speed reporting

Keith Barber of the Cassid Water Quality Coalition told the board the group will submit a formal proposal next week and return on Aug. 5 to present an offer to help the town identify cesspools and speed remediation.
Barber said the coalition can use pumping-company reporting to detect likely cesspools (noting different tank sizes and the town's reporting thresholds) and offered to sign confidentiality agreements to receive information. "We would sign confidentiality agreements...It's free labor for the town and would expediate the process of identifying all the cesspools," Barber said. He said the group has more than 330 email addresses in its database and can assist with public education and outreach.
Board staff said they welcome volunteers and that the office is already working on identifying cesspools; Barber said the group will submit a proposal to staff (Katie) and return on Aug. 5 with details.
