Wexford Science & Technology’s consultant team presented a notice of intent for a three‑story, roughly 35,000‑square‑foot R&D/office building at 256.2 Market Street in the Hamilton Canal district and described stormwater and erosion controls intended to limit runoff to the Merrimack Canal.
"The building is approximately 35,000 square foot footprint, 3 stories," said Connor Nagel of VHB, who added the project will install stormwater treatment at the outfall and place erosion controls (silt fence and sock) to keep sediment from reaching the canals. Because the applicant had not yet supplied a DEP file number needed to close the hearing and because the city’s DPW and stormwater staff will review stormwater details, the commission moved to continue the notice of intent to the August 26 meeting so those permits and file numbers can be confirmed.
Commissioners noted the project replaces a largely impervious parking lot that historically drained to the canal and welcomed stormwater treatment improvements but emphasized the need for the city stormwater permit before the commission can act further.
