Design Review Board unveils two-page resource for downtown new businesses

City planning staff told the Design Review Board they have drafted a two-page DRB resource intended to guide new downtown business owners through design-review steps, permitting links and contacts. Staff said the handout was reviewed internally and with Salina Downtown's executive director and is now available on the city's permitting portal and through Salina Downtown (SDI).
"It's a great handout," Chair Freeland said, praising the quick-reference format for new business owners. Leslie Bishop of Salina Downtown added: "Everything looks great — thank you for all your work." Board members suggested adding visual examples of acceptable sign types and facade elements, and recommended linking those examples to the handout's QR code so users can view a gallery and the full design guidelines online.
Staff noted the design guidelines already include some drawings and that the city website has a small set of visual examples under merchant/business resources; staff and SDI said they will explore expanding those visuals and linking them in the handout. The board treated the handout as informational staff work and did not require a formal approval vote during the meeting.
