Police Chief David Pernice told the Union City Borough Council that a candidate approved at the prior meeting has not returned contact and "he is assuming he is no longer interested." Pernice said there are 32 candidates on the consortium list and said he will reach out to the consortium and the Civil Service Commission to set up oral exams, with the department planning to hire one part-time officer.
Councilors agreed to move forward with recruiting for one part-time position. Pernice said his preference remains to eventually fill two part-time roles, though only one position was approved by the council at an earlier meeting. No formal vote was recorded to change staffing levels during this meeting.
