Board approves honorary doctorates and greenlights planning for new academic programs and centers

The Board approved several honorary doctorates and voted to authorize planning proposals for new academic programs and research centers across the system. UM Provost Adrea Lawrence presented nominations for honorary doctorates for Joe Whittinghill and Debra Magpie Earling; MT Tech and MSU presented additional honorary degree nominees, including a posthumous award for Elizabeth McCoy.
MSU Vice President for Research Dr. Alison Harmon and UM Vice Provost John DeBoer presented requests to plan new initiatives, including the Montana Geospatial Insights and Solutions Institute and an Applied Quantum Center, and program planning for degrees such as a Rural Practice Juris Doctorate, a Master’s in Indian Law and Policy, and an integrated concentration in Wildlife Biology. Regents moved and passed the planning requests (motions recorded and passed 6-0); campuses will return with detailed proposals and budget projections for Board consideration.
