Union City Borough Council unanimously approved a $22,295 contract with Mansfield on Aug. 13 to repair a sinkhole at Municipal Lot #1. The work directed includes replacing approximately 10 feet of 24-inch clay tile, reconnecting pipes in the sinkhole to the 24-inch line, and installing a larger catch basin; the action followed recommendations from Insight and borough engineer Tim Wells. Mansfield's $22,295 estimate was selected over a $23,450 bid from McLallen Construction; both bids required the borough to provide a truck during the project.
Streets Supervisor Bob Phillips described visible erosion and manhole issues at the site and relayed the engineering recommendation to replace and reconnect the affected tiles and piping. Councilor Steadman moved to award the work to Mansfield and Councilor Osborn seconded; the motion carried unanimously. The council did not specify a project start date in the public record or which department will schedule borough truck support.
