Board authorizes $6M spending authority for UM’s McGill Hall WPEM addition

The Board approved increasing spending authority to $6 million for the McGill Hall addition to house the Montana Center for Work Physiology and Exercise Metabolism (WPEM), funded from Facilities & Administrative cost recoveries from federal grants; project is scheduled for design and anticipated to be bid in summer 2026.
The Montana Board of Regents authorized an increase in spending authority to $6 million for UM Missoula’s McGill Hall addition to accommodate the Montana Center for Work Physiology and Exercise Metabolism (WPEM). Director of Facilities Dan Stevenson explained the 68th Legislature provided $3 million authority-only and the 69th Legislature provided an additional $3 million, bringing total authority to $6 million; the project is being funded with Facilities and Administrative (F&A) cost recoveries from federal grants received by WPEM.
Design work is underway and the project is anticipated to be bid in summer 2026. The motion (ITEM 224-1007-R0526) was moved and passed unanimously (7-0). No amendments or changes to funding sources were made during the Board discussion.
