Volunteers and staff presented a multi-part plan for Volunteer Park that includes regrading an embankment to expand the play area, digging a channel to manage spring runoff, and installing play equipment with the first set expected around Aug. 12. Committee members also proposed removing horseshoe pits, adding two cornhole areas and installing a flagpole for future Memorial Day observances.
On community programming, staff previewed a July 23 event at Volunteer Park that will include fire-department demonstrations and donated supplies for children, and said they are organizing a paint-and-pizza night and a backpack-supply drive before the first day of school. "The play equipment is coming 2nd week in August," one committee member said, and staff urged volunteers and residents to donate school supplies for backpacks.
