The council adopted a new volunteer-park usage agreement that includes indemnification language and limits for reserveable events (no more than 25 people, no music). Chair read the contract terms and a motion to accept the city volunteer park usage agreement for events was made, seconded and approved by voice vote.
Matt (speaker 7) reported that the volunteer-park committee established a preliminary playground plan, selected equipment and ordered the main unit; the council authorized use of up to 50 cubic yards of fill for creek-channel work to reduce spring flooding at the south end of the park. Matt also requested council approval for a tentative Sumter Youth Program event on June 18 (4–6 p.m.); the council moved and seconded a motion to allow the youth program under Wendy's supervision and approved it.
Staff noted the town would use grant funding where available for playground equipment and that temporary closures may be required during construction and creek-channel work. The council asked volunteers to coordinate timing to minimize disruption.
