Sankey Park phase 3 nears completion; concrete and handrails among remaining items

City staff updated the Park and Tree Committee on Sankey Park Phase 3 construction, saying the contractor expects to finish remaining concrete work Thursday and will return next week to backfill behind sidewalks. "Thursday, they're going to do the rest of the concrete, and that should be all the pass," a staff member said, adding that the contractor then will handle backfilling and that light poles are about two weeks out.
Committee members discussed erosion control and plant selection for steep slopes, noting the need for hydro-seeding or native/drought-tolerant mixes in shaded areas and the limitation of irrigation on steep slopes because of runoff. Staff also said handrails are being fabricated for areas steeper than 5% and that the pavilion engineering review is still outstanding; the committee agreed ongoing maintenance plans and planting specifications should account for the slope and shade conditions.
