Beautification volunteers complete Arbor Day plantings; committee reports 28 volunteers contributed

The Park and Tree Committee's beautification representative reported on the Arbor Day event, held April 25, saying volunteers helped plant entryway planters and distributed seed packets and a donated flower-basket prize. "We had 4 members manning the booth and 8 people signed up to volunteer," the representative said, adding volunteers donated 36 hours of weeding and trimming during early May and a later workday brought the volunteer total to 28 people who logged about 56 hours of work.
Candy said plants were delivered by Baumann Farms and public works installed city baskets and checked drip lines, and volunteers completed planting of the scheduled planters. She also noted a T-shirt purchase of about $170 was paid from funds raised by the beautification committee prior to its integration with the Park and Tree Committee. "We had donated seed packets that we gave out and we raffled off a flower basket that was donated," Candy said. The committee thanked Public Works for help and local partners who donated materials and time. The committee expects follow-up recognition of volunteers coordinated with the City of Sweet Home.
