Summary
The commission voted July 22 to favorably refer a proposal for the city to buy state‑owned 784 River Road and then sell it to the existing tenant; staff noted the parcel is a former landfill and the state requires easements for monitoring wells and methane monitoring, with estimated conveyance costs of roughly $350,000 plus administrative expenses.

On July 22 the Shelton Planning and Zoning Commission voted to report favorably on an Aug. 24 referral for the city to purchase the state‑owned parcel at 784 River Road and to later sell it to the existing tenant, a family entertainment business that has operated at the location for more than 27 years. Staff said the Board of Aldermen voted earlier that day contingent on a favorable referral from planning and zoning.
Administrative staff noted the parcel was formerly a landfill and that the state is requiring easements to allow continued monitoring of wells and potential methane migration; staff provided an estimate of roughly $350,000 plus administrative conveyance costs. A commissioner moved that the commission recommend both the purchase from the state and the sale to the existing tenant, subject to the state’s existing easements; the motion passed 6‑0.
