Officials outline dorm and housing options as base capacity nears limit

One city official summarized the problem as a shortfall of officer dorms and family housing and said the Air Force and partners are exploring intergovernmental support agreements (IGSAs) with a university partner to build and operate dorm-style housing. “If we built it, then they have 10 years to pay that off with 5 year options,” an official explained of the proposed IGSA structure.
A base official provided occupancy details: “On the family housing side, we have 242 homes, that is at 97, as of last week,” and said enlisted and officer dorms are at capacity. He described short-term measures such as extending temporary living-expense coverage from 21 days to 90 days to reduce out-of-pocket costs for arriving personnel, and said combining on-base recapitalization with off-base housing solutions remains part of planning.
No formal commitment to a specific housing project or funding appropriation was made at the meeting; discussion focused on options, partner roles and the need to coordinate water, power and other resiliency investments to support any expansion.
