School official: Eisenhower Elementary construction underway; new building to hold 350 students

Dr. Darren reported that work on the Eisenhower Elementary School construction is progressing, with fencing installed off Fox Drive, surveying complete and initial earthwork already underway. “They've actually started pushing dirt, yesterday,” he said, noting that crews have removed soil at the site.
The official said the new school will hold up to 350 students and that the district currently serves roughly 125 students at the existing facility. He told the authority the district is paying invoices as work proceeds and is being reimbursed in part by the Department of Defense and state legislative funding. “We're being reimbursed by the Department of Defense and the Oklahoma State Department,” he said.
Board members were told a conservative timeline for opening the school is about two years. Dr. Darren also warned that the district will redraw elementary boundary lines when the new school is ready, a step he said will be necessary and one that may upset some families. The authority did not vote on construction actions at this meeting and instead received the status update. The board plans further conversations on scheduling and redistricting as the project progresses.
