Baker County Emergency Services is working on evacuation-zone planning for Sumpter, and councilors discussed how to simplify zones for this small town.
Agency official (speaker 4) said the county is developing maps as part of a pilot project and suggested keeping zones simple in a small community: "I would prefer Auburn Street, need my divider to where everything on cracker or born or something is. That is just one zone," the agency official said, explaining that treating the town as a single zone makes evacuation clearer for residents. The official said the county will produce maps and that the pilot will include map delivery.
Councilors asked whether maps will be produced; the agency official confirmed that maps will be prepared. The council supported the concept of straightforward zones and requested the county provide the maps when available.
