County health officer reports 12,000 influenza cases statewide; Prairie County reports two positives and 43 shots this season

At the Board of Health meeting held during the commissioners' session, County Health Officer Chip Mintz reported on influenza and other communicable diseases. Mintz said there have been approximately 12,000 flu cases statewide and described influenza as "sporadic within the county." He also reviewed other statewide virus statistics and reminded residents about West Nile virus precautions related to mosquitoes.
Public health nurse Tylene Eaton reported two positive flu cases in Prairie County and said the county had administered 43 flu shots this season. Eaton reviewed the specimen-transport policy and described school outreach on oral-injury prevention. Tobacco-prevention staff described weekly Facebook posts and an article in the Terry Tribune and noted compliance checks on tobacco sales in Montana schools.
The Board of Health accepted the reports and adjourned; the next board meeting was scheduled for June 17, 2026.
