The council opened a public hearing on Ordinance 2026‑22 to rezone 4687 Appaloosa Drive from C‑1 commercial to I‑1 light industrial. Applicant Andrew McCurry of Father Nature Landscapes described the need for additional warehouse space and soil‑processing operations because the current site had insufficient room to expand.
Two residents spoke in support, and McCurry said the business operates nearby and needs appropriate zoning to grow. After public comment, Councilman Sims moved to adopt the ordinance, the motion was seconded and the council approved the rezoning by voice/roll call. A council member summarized that planning and zoning had recommended the change before the council hearing.
Andrew McCurry told the council, “our business is not zoned correctly for what we're trying to do,” and supporters said rezoning would allow the company to remain in Irondale rather than relocate. The ordinance was adopted at the meeting and will change the property's allowable uses under the city zoning code.
