Mayor James Douglas Stewart Jr. told the council the city received $513,000 from the Community Foundation of Greater Birmingham to underwrite a 15‑month pilot so the city will not pay operating costs while MAX collects data and refines routes. Foster said the service will connect riders to the Woodland Transit Center and other regional hubs; the mayor urged residents to use the pilot so officials can evaluate demand and potential long‑term options.
Foster said riders will see cameras inside vehicles and trained drivers; he and his team offered flyers and an introductory promo code for a free first ride. Council members expressed support and encouraged residents to try the service during the pilot period.
