Heidi, director of the Packwaukee Public Library, told the Marquette County Board that Winnefox libraries across the county run year‑round events intended to educate and connect residents, from weekly story times and crafting groups to monthly book clubs.
"We plan things throughout the year as a resource to our community for educational purposes," Heidi said, explaining that many programs grow from conversations with residents and local partners. Sheila from the Endeavour Public Library added that summer programming began June 18 with a community dinner and that libraries collaborate with UW Extension, local artists and nonprofits.
Sheila highlighted joint events across towns, including a recent program described in the presenters' handout featuring a "mammoth hunter" and artifacts that drew families. The libraries also coordinate with the Marquette County Sheriff’s Department for activities such as a fishing event on the causeway and participate in countywide events — the library system will be represented at the Touch‑a‑Truck event in Westfield on Aug. 1, 10 a.m. to 1 p.m., the presenters said.
Board members asked about state park pass checkout participation; Heidi said the libraries do not provide the one‑day state park passes because the cost and one‑time use made the program financially impractical for the library system. The presenters distributed a handout listing six county libraries and contact information and thanked the board for time to present. The chair thanked the presenters and moved to the next agenda item.
