Committee backs adding BlueStar family plates to city parking-meter waiver list

Mayor Wright asked the committee to amend city code to add BlueStar plates to the list of exempted parking-meter plates, joining existing exemptions such as ADA and certain veteran plates. He said the plate was recently signed into law by Governor Healy and will be issued soon by the RMV.
Mayor Wright explained qualifying family members are limited to a spouse, parent, child, sibling or grandchild of a police officer who died in the line of duty, and eligibility is limited to one passenger vehicle or motorcycle per eligible family member. "I thought this was a respectable move for us to do as a city," he said. A councilor raised a technical code-numbering question and the mayor agreed to double-check e-code numbering before the next meeting. The committee had no substantive objections and the item will be forwarded to the council with staff clarifications.
