The City Council approved an economic incentive under the Local Economic Development Act (LITA) to support Gym Magic's Child Development Center expansion. Elizabeth Teeters of economic development described the proposed reimbursement as $50,000 on a reimbursement basis tied to milestones: $20,000 at certificate of occupancy with at least eight employees, $10,000 for maintaining 12 employees for six months, and $20,000 when maintaining 30 employees for six months.
Teeters said the project expects a $4.3 million capital investment, 10 new classrooms and capacity for 120 children at full enrollment, and the creation of 37 full-time jobs. Nancy Bates, a project representative, said permits were being prepared and the land for the expansion appears ready. Councilmembers framed the project as a model application of local LITA funds to address childcare shortages and supported monitoring and potential replication for other businesses.
