Residents urge townwide swales and tie-ins to Septic-to-Sewer project

Several residents spoke during the meeting’s public comment period about stormwater drainage and the town’s Septic-to-Sewer project. Robert Bullard commented on the importance of stormwater drainage and suggested improvements that could be coordinated with the Septic-to-Sewer project. Barbara Davis recommended installing swales broadly and urged the town to pursue a two-and-a-half-inch retention requirement when permitted.
Ms. Davis suggested the town "include swales everywhere a swale could be included," and asked that the Town move forward on retention standards when allowed under SB 180. Resident Sharone Lemieux asked whether Volusia County could address swale issues along South Atlantic Avenue; Mayor Paritsky and Vice-Mayor Smith said the Town would follow up with the county. Joel Jordan of Collective Water Resources provided additional technical information on swale development during the public comment period.
Council directed by consensus to add installation of swales town-wide, where feasible, under Priority #3 of the Adaptation Capital Improvements Projects Prioritization list. The Planning Board supported that incorporation by consensus.
