Councilwoman Carol Ficus reported on Park Board activity, saying progress is being made on the Civic Auditorium lift: the lift has been ordered and, she said, "it should take 3 weeks to install after delivery" and "if everything goes well, the lift should be functioning by Labor Day." She also outlined resurfacing of tennis courts at Kesseling Park, Allison Park and Ramily Park, funded by the Park Foundation, the Health Foundation of La Porte maintenance fund, and a donation from the Morrill family; she said the Park Board is pursuing a potential USTA facilities grant to supplement funding.
Ficus highlighted an upcoming fundraising event for the activity center for older adults on Sept. 11 and promoted Lake Fest (Friday–Sunday) including food vendors, a beer garden, a concert by Uncle Cracker on July 25 at the Fox Park Amphitheater at 6:30 p.m., steamboat rides, and family activities. She encouraged residents to volunteer using the park office phone number or the Lake Fest website.
Council thanked the Park Board and volunteers for events and public art work in the city. No formal action was taken on these updates at the meeting.
