Board approves OpenEd.org partnership to offer district-sponsored K–8 virtual program

The administration said OpenEd would deliver instruction with licensed educators while the district would report attendance, maintain transcripts and offer students the option to attend in-person classes for electives like music and shop. Andy noted that approximately 30 local students already participate in OpenEd-type programs and that a district partnership could recapture enrollment and related funding.
Directors asked whether homeschool families and current virtual-provider families could participate; administration said the partnership would provide a local option and include tuition-recapture language so students could transfer without losing eligibility for district activities. The board moved and approved the OpenEd.org partnership resolution on a first-read basis; administration said the agreement will be implemented so the option is in place by August for families who select it.
