The superintendent said the selectmen must call any town meeting and the clerk must call the public hearing, and listed the internal steps: the board must vote on an article, the article goes to the board of selectmen for approval, notices must be advertised two weeks in advance, and a recommended timeline would allow a public hearing on Jan. 2 and a town meeting on Jan. 16 if the board finalizes its article on Dec. 18. He added that one neighboring district had expressed interest in continuing discussions and that the current tuition contract runs through June 30, so timing is important for budget planning. "If the board finalizes our article on the 18th of December, then the board of selectmen could review it on the 19th," he said.
Board members asked questions about process and whether to vote on the article that night or wait for more review. The superintendent advised caution in rushing a final vote and suggested convening an ad hoc tuition agreement committee to gather information in advance and be ready to negotiate if the article is approved by the town.
