Deputy Fire Chief Ryan McConaughey reviewed progress toward creating a Community Wellness and Outreach program and asked the Council and residents for feedback. He said the program is framed as a community risk reduction effort that aligns with parts of the department's accreditation process and the Council's adopted goals for FY 2025-26 and 2026-27.
McConaughey described five core goals for the proposed program and outlined next steps for development. Vice-Mayor Smith suggested expanding advertising and outreach to increase community awareness. Councilmember White asked who would be the designated program officer; Councilmember Milano asked whether the union would need to approve elements of the program. Residents Lori Stonehocker and Rick Fuess spoke in support and suggested incorporating community involvement and partnerships.
Council reached consensus to continue working on the Community Wellness and Outreach program and return with additional detail.
