Council approves zone change and property-line adjustment to add 2,687 sq ft to Sweet Home High School

The council unanimously approved a property-line adjustment (PLA 26-02) and zone map amendment (ZMA 26-01) to transfer about 2,687 square feet from a residential lot (Tax Lot 10100) to Sweet Home High School (Tax Lot 9100). Applicant Kevin Strong said the transfer could ease bus congestion, improve student safety and enable potential future CTE uses such as a greenhouse.
The Sweet Home City Council unanimously approved a property-line adjustment and zoning map amendment that will transfer roughly 2,687 square feet from a neighboring residential parcel to the Sweet Home High School property and change the transferred strip’s zoning from Residential High Density (R-3) to Public Facility. City staff and the Planning Commission recommended approval; no opposition testimony was presented at the public hearing.
Kevin Strong, the applicant, provided testimony identifying himself and his address and said the adjustment would help address student-safety and transportation concerns tied to recent bond-funded improvements. "This will allow us really to address a couple of concerns...student safety...reduce bus congestion...we could potentially use this property to place a greenhouse, which would help with our career tech education," Strong said. Council voted to approve PLA 26-02 and ZMA 26-01 and conducted the first reading of Ordinance No. 1 for 2026; the council moved to a second reading at the next meeting and also authorized a second-reading-by-title tonight for procedural purposes, all by unanimous votes.
Staff noted the adjustment will not create new parcels, will not require new street extensions, and will require survey and recording with Linn County per ORS chapter 92. Future development on the transferred area must comply with applicable Sweet Home Municipal Code standards.
