The City of Sweet Home Library Advisory Board voted May 21 to approve an updated laptop-lending policy and to refer the manual changes to the city council for final approval. Committee member S3 moved to accept the policy as written and to refer it to council; the motion was moved and seconded and the board voted in favor.
"I will make a motion that we accept this policy as written and refer it to counsel," S3 said. The library director (S5) summarized key operational rules: in-building laptop use will be limited to two hours while out-of-building loans will be for one week; patrons must sign out devices with staff and staff will inspect returns for damage. Board members also discussed staff capacity and suggested initial gatekeeping while procedures are refined; the director said she and Kira will handle most of the early checkouts to streamline the process.
Why it matters: The new policy establishes a formal device-lending program that the board and staff expect will expand access while attempting to limit wear, loss and staff burden through time limits, sign-out procedures and return inspections. Because fines and fee schedule changes require council action, the policy itself was forwarded to the city council for final adoption and any associated fines would be handled via council resolution.
Next steps: The policy will be presented to city council next week for final approval; the board also asked that page numbers be added to the policy manual before final submission.
