Council holds hearing on state revenue sharing and certifies services to receive funds

Sweet Home's council opened and closed a public hearing on use of state-shared revenues and then certified the city provides the required municipal services to receive those funds. Finance staff said the revenue-sharing package (general revenue sharing, cigarette tax, OLCC proportion, and marijuana tax) is projected at about $355,000 in the coming budget and is allocated within the general fund to support multiple departments.
The council heard no public testimony during the hearing and one councilor characterized the requirement as largely procedural: "This is basically just a requirement...if we want to receive money from the state we must...sign off on this," the councilor said. The council then unanimously approved Resolution 8 to accept the revenue sharing and Resolution 9 to certify that the city provides at least four municipal services required by state statute.
Staff emphasized the certification is a statutory requirement to receive state-shared revenues and noted the fire protection service is provided by a separate fire district while the city provides the other required services.
