The Sweet Home City Council voted to approve a contract with the Oregon Department of Transportation to begin preliminary engineering for the Mountain View Road Multi-Use Path project, which staff said will add sidewalks near Sweet Home Junior High and improve pedestrian access.
Staff told council that ODOT scoped the project in 2025 and estimated the total project cost at $1,950,000. The city must provide a local match; staff said the engineering-phase match is $29,269.50 and the city's total match over four years is budgeted at approximately $200,000 to $265,000 and is already included in the capital improvement plan. "So the project will span four years from preliminary engineering to construction, beginning in '26–'27," staff said. Councilors expressed support for the safety and student-foot-traffic benefits and approved the contract 6–0.
Staff recommended option two — approve the contract as proposed — and the council's unanimous vote clears the way for preliminary engineering work to begin with ODOT.
